Claudia Gray, DVM
Founder
Dr. Claudia Gray brings decades of experience, leadership, and passion for veterinary medicine to her role at Pathways Animal Hospital. A native of Williamsville, New York—the very community she serves—Dr. Gray’s journey has come full circle. After growing up in the Buffalo suburb, she left to pursue her education, attending Skidmore College before earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Binghamton University. She went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University in 2000. In 2003, she returned to the Buffalo area, drawn back by the strong sense of community she describes as “magnetic.”
Dr. Gray owned and operated Alliance Animal Hospital starting in 2014, where she built a reputation for compassionate care and lasting client relationships. Her path into veterinary medicine was less of a deliberate decision and more of a defining realization—an “aha” moment during her second year of college when she recognized that becoming a veterinarian was her calling.

Professionally, Dr. Gray has a special interest in small animal reproduction and surgery, while maintaining a strong appreciation for all aspects of general practice. She is particularly passionate about reproductive medicine and the possibilities it offers, including the use of cryogenic preservation. As a Certified Zoetis Freeze Center, she has successfully helped produce litters using frozen canine semen—even samples preserved for over 25 years—an achievement she finds both fascinating and deeply rewarding for advancing and preserving pedigrees.
Her leadership and commitment to the veterinary field are reflected in her service as a past president of the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society. She is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the Western New York Veterinary Medical Association (WNYVMA), the New York State Veterinary Medical Society (NYSVMS), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the Society for Theriogenology.
Dr. Gray finds immense fulfillment in building long-term relationships with clients and their pets, often caring for multiple generations over time. She is inspired by the opportunity to help pet owners understand their animals’ health and to work collaboratively toward solutions. She continues to embrace her role as both a healer and an empath, forming meaningful connections through the human-animal bond.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Gray is a dedicated mother to her two children, Owen and Ella, who inspire her daily with their growth, curiosity, and evolving perspectives. She shares her life with her husband, Andy, whose outgoing nature and love for connection bring energy to everything he does—including a memorable sailing trip to Antarctica in 2025.
An avid cyclist, Dr. Gray rides between 5,000 and 7,000 miles each year and has explored routes across the United States and Europe, including Switzerland and France. She is a member of the Niagara Frontier Bicycling Club and the Buffalo Bicycling Club and recently discovered a love for cyclocross racing. Her passion for cycling began with the Empire State Ride in 2019, a 500+ mile fundraising journey from New York City to Niagara Falls supporting Roswell Park Cancer Institute. This cause holds deep personal meaning, as she lost her mother, Christine Cataldo, to breast cancer at the age of 42. Her mother’s legacy as a pioneer in early childhood education continues to inspire Dr. Gray both personally and professionally.

Amanda Donovan, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Amanda Donovan is one of our Reproductive and General Practice Veterinarians. Born, bred, and raised in Buffalo, she has long-standing ties to the local veterinary community. She began her career working at a local practice in Lancaster as a veterinary assistant during high school and college, and returned as a veterinarian after graduating in 2007.
In recent years, Dr. Donovan has found great fulfillment in reproductive medicine, an area of practice she didn’t initially expect to enjoy but has come to truly value. She enjoys working with breeders and learning about the unique traits, talents, and nuances of different breeds, and appreciates the opportunity to support clients through this specialized aspect of care.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Donovan enjoys all things that glitter and salty snacks. She lives with her husband, their two sons in Grand Island. They have a cat named Muchacho, and “the best dog in the world” Billy the G.O.A.T., as well as seven chickens. On weekends, she and her family can often be found exploring Buffalo — bowling, attending concerts, or enjoying the city’s vibrant food scene.

Abigail Carr, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Abigail Carr is an Associate Veterinarian at Pathways Animal Hospital who brings a lifelong passion for animals and learning to her work each day. Originally from Rochester, New York, Dr. Carr was born and raised surrounded by a love for animals—spending her childhood visiting zoos whenever possible and befriending every dog she met.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from SUNY Oswego in 2010, followed by a Master of Science in Zoo Conservation Biology from the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom in 2011. After completing her graduate studies, Dr. Carr worked as a zookeeper in Rochester for three years, where she gained hands-on experience with a wide variety of species. Her time in zoological care ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Carr went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in Saint Kitts, graduating in 2022. She completed the majority of her clinical rotations in Buffalo, New York, and remained there to begin her veterinary career at a low-cost wellness clinic, where she had previously trained during her rotations.
Her professional interests include animal behavior, dermatology, and exotic animal medicine—fields she enjoys because they often require a thoughtful combination of training, medication, and environmental management. For Dr. Carr, each case is like solving a unique puzzle, which keeps her work both engaging and rewarding. She knew she had chosen the right profession when she found herself genuinely excited to go to work each day, eager to meet the animals she would care for.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Carr lives with her fiance and their 9-year-old rescue dog, Hamilton. In her free time, she enjoys watching reality TV, attending musical theatre performances, cooking and baking (especially Thai cuisine), reading, and spending time solving puzzles and playing word games.
