We want every pet owner to be able to use this website, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or need larger text and stronger contrast. This page sets out what we have done, what we know is still imperfect, and how to reach a person if something is not working for you.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA โ the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and used by most regulators and courts. We treat it as an ongoing commitment rather than a box that gets ticked once.
What we have done
- Descriptive alternative text on every meaningful image, so screen readers describe photographs rather than skipping them
- A "skip to content" link so keyboard users can bypass the navigation on every page
- One clear page heading per page, with headings in a logical order
- Every form field labelled and associated with its input
- Full keyboard operability โ every link, button, menu and form can be reached and used without a mouse
- Color contrast on body text and primary buttons tested against the WCAG AA thresholds
- Responsive layouts that reflow to any screen width without horizontal scrolling, and support browser zoom
- Video captions and player controls available on embedded video
What we know is imperfect
We would rather be honest about this than claim the site is flawless. Some older photographs have shorter alternative text than we would write today, and a few long pages would benefit from clearer internal signposting. Embedded content from third parties โ video and our online pharmacy โ is outside our direct control, though we choose providers who take accessibility seriously.
Where an issue is reported to us, we prioritize it over other website work.
Why we do not use an accessibility overlay
You may have seen small floating accessibility buttons on other websites. We have chosen not to add one. Independent research and enforcement action have both found that these tools do not deliver the compliance they advertise, and in 2025 the Federal Trade Commission required one such vendor to pay $1 million over claims that its product made websites conform to WCAG.
We would rather fix the underlying website โ the headings, the labels, the contrast, the keyboard paths โ than place a widget on top of problems that remain underneath it.
